Nordic Comments On Fort Erie Terminations, Future

One day after it was announced that 190 employees of the Fort Erie thoroughbred racetrack will no longer have jobs come March, 2009, owner Nordic Gaming Corporation has commented on the situation.

The Toronto Star has reported that, via release, Nordic has stated there is no guarantee of any live racing at the border oval in 2009, and that previous plans regarding a multi-million dollar expansion plan and facility upgrades have been shelved. The company claims that it has lost $4 to $7 million annually for the last four years.

"While Nordic will pursue every effort to try and find a way to continue racing in 2009, there are regulatory requirements that the company must comply with, thus these employees were advised that their employment was being terminated, effective March 31, 2009. This decision has been a difficult one for the company; one which Nordic has delayed for several years," Nordic said via release.

Here's a suggestion to all those who constantly say they know how to manage/market/run a racetrack, maybe OHHA should step up with some cash, buy the place and run a 1 mile harness track.

win win situation no government bailout 100plus jobs saved and a new mile track.

How can we expect the goverment to chip in with financial assistance with 3 auto make in dire straits. It looks like it all over at the Fort.
