You would have to be living under a rock to not know that Jody Jamieson is leading Canada in wins this season. The 33-year-old resident of Cambridge, Ont. broke the Canadian record for single-season driving victories last week. A tougher question is: Who rounds out the top five?
Having broken Mark MacDonald's Canadian record last week at Flamboro Downs, Jamieson leads the pack heading into the Monday, December 14 live racing action in Canada. His 750 driving victories on Canadian soil this year -- plus nine south of the border -- puts him well ahead of the rest of the pack north of the border. To go along with a .367 universal driver rating, Jamieson has also driven his mounts to $11.2 million in purses in 2009.
Having consistently competed at an abundance of Ontario racetracks this year, Brad Forward sits rather comfortably in the second spot in terms of Canadian driving wins this season. With 506 victories this year heading into today's racing action, the 38-year-old resident of Woodstock, Ont. is a virtual lock to finish in the runner up spot. Forward, who represented Canada this year in the World Driving Championship, currently sports a .339 UDR. His mounts have earned over $3.7 million this year.
Occupying the three-spot, Rideau Carleton Raceway regular John MacDonald is on the cusp of recording his 400th win of the season. The 27-year-old resident of Russell, Ont. currently has a .371 UDR, has driven his mounts to over $1.8 million in purses, and has hit the wire first on 399 occasions this year.
Flamboro Downs fixture Paul MacKenzie occupies the No. 4 spot via his 372 wins to date this year. The 48-year-old resident of Puslinch, Ont. has steered his mounts to over $2.5 million in purses this year and currently sports a UDR of .265.
After hitting up multiple Ontario tracks this season, the fifth spot is retained by 19-year-old Doug McNair. The up-and-coming resident of Guelph, Ont. has steered 357 winners this year, currently sports a .326 UDR, and has steered his mounts to over $3 million in purses.
