Pickings were pretty slim for pacing mare Pathtodover throughout the month of August, but she’s really managed to regain her mojo in recent weeks for owner/trainer/driver Doug Bowins.
Pathtodover, a seven-year-old daughter of Straight Path-Armbro Kerchief, has now finished first or second in her last six outings including a Tuesday romp in the $12,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred at The Raceway at the Western Fair District.
Sent off as the 4-5 favourite in the eight-horse affair, Pathtodover fired to the front from Post 4 and led the field through panels of :27.4, :58.1 and 1:26.2 before kicking home in :28.4 to win by a two-length margin over Your Beautiful in 1:55.1. Mach Delicacy rounded out the Triactor ticket.
After going 4-for-23 last season, Pathtodover has followed up with a 10-4-2 record from just 29 starts this season. She’s put away in excess of $67,000 in earnings this year and more than $174,000 to date.
Round two of the Middlesex Pacing Series also went postward on Tuesday, with horses and geldings doing battle in four divisions.
Donegal Jim was a popular winner in his $8,000 tilt for the tandem of driver Trevor Henry and trainer Rheal Bourgeois. The four-year-old son of Modern Art, who was a 1:58.1 winner in the opening leg of the series, threw down intervals of :28.1, :57.2 and 1:26.3 in Tuesday’s assignment before using a :30.3 closing quarter to win by 5-3/4 lengths in 1:57.1. The Big Bite was next best, with Western Majesty taking home the show dough.
The pacer, who was unraced as a rookie, now boasts a bankroll in excess of $23,000 and a record of 8-2-2 from 15 starts for Super Mile LLC of Blasdell, NY.
R Es Art also doubled up in the series thanks to his 1:58.3 triumph in the second division for the team of Trevor Henry and trainer Dean Nixon. On top through splits of :29, :59.1 and 1:29, the three-year-old son of Modern Art came home in :29.3 to win by 1-1/4 lengths over Acra Beach Bajan in 1:58.3. Rebel Pride was third.
Brett Revington of Stratford, PE and Gary Revington of London, ON share ownership on the nine-time winner. The pacer has banked more than $20,000 this year and $26,411 in his career.
Quiteaworkofart front-stepped to a 1:58.2 decision in the third division for driver Mark Williams and owner/trainer Kathryn Jewell. The son of Modern Art, who didn’t race last season, carved out fractions of :29.1, :59.1 and 1:28 before cruising home in :30.2 to stop the clock in 1:58.2. He was one-length up on runner-up Red Mist, with Caliber Seelster rounding out the top three finishers.
The lightly-raced pacer has manufactured a 3-2-0 record from nine starts in his career, and his lifetime earnings recently surpassed $140,000.
The winning streak is now three-in-a-row and counting for Victorydaze Wilwin, who wired up the foes he faced in the final division. Trainer/driver Mark Etsell took charge early with the son of Whosurboy, who then led the field through panels of :29.1, 1:00 and 1:29 before using a :28.3 kicker to win by 2-3/4 lengths in 1:57.3. Go Button took home the runner-up award, with the bronze medal going to HST Kruzer.
Rhandy Patton of Collingwood, ON holds the ownership papers on the gelding, who improved this year’s record to 4-3-2 from 13 starts while increasing his lifetime earnings to $21,985 with the win.
