“It sucks,” said Ray Schnittker, of the fact that Deweycheatumnhowe, his $3 million contender for Horse of the Year, is currently sidelined with a throat abscess.

“He’s a little better today, and it’s down a little. It’s just a weird thing to have happened. I took him to Cornell yesterday because being entered in the Crown I wanted to know right away what it was…and Dr. Ducharme said you very rarely see this type of thing. His white count is ok, there’s nothing that shows on the x-ray and it’s just like a swelling in one of his lymph nodes.

“In two years he has never had a thing wrong with him, so I guess it had to happen sometime. I’ll wait till Monday and see what I’m going to do. We’re lucky there was no elimination.”

Deweycheatumnhowe is the favorite in the 11-horse field entered for the $500,000 Breeders Crown Colt Trot on Saturday, November 29. Post positions will be drawn this Saturday on Meadowlands TV, after the seventh race.

If you race him and he doesn't do well you will always be blamed for racing the horse sick for nothing more than greed (be assured I will be the first person posting to that blog). Is it worth it? I know you are not the type of trainer who would do that. I know you have the horses health and well being at heart. For example, I watched you in the winners circle do nothing short of push the "blanket lady" away from Dewey when he won and rip the blanket off his back during that hot fall day. I assume it was in hopes to prevent any excess heat to an already hot horse. Keep in mind before you enter you probably wouldn't push the cheapest horse in your barn to race sick, why would you do that to one of the best horses in history? Either way he won't be 100% for the final because this infection will limit his prep work for the final. See how it progresses but please for the horses sake think with your brain not your wallet.

Dewey get better soon but no matter what happens you are the greatest horse off all time and that they cant take away. I think you will be a great stud to. I just wish I could see you in person. Get well Albert.

Do not race him sick he is one of the greatest ever it would be a bad way to finish good luck on his recovery
