SC Rewind: Name That Track

Published: November 20, 2021 12:57 pm EST

This week's Rewind is another version of 'Picture Parade' and Robert Smith has assembled a group of photographs of mainly old racetracks.

As usual you the viewers can look over the collection and try your luck at identifying them. Name one or name them all.

This theme was used in a previous Picture Parade but none of the photographs have ever been used as far as I know.

#1 - Can you name the location of this well used grandstand? Like many spots it is not the first such structure of its kind to stand at this location.

#2 - This picture might have a few clues in it so I won't add any more. If you study it real closely you can see somebody is hard at work.

#3 - Does this spot look a bit familiar? It's not there anymore. Give us your best guess.

#4 - This looks like a pretty snazzy setup. Can you identify the location?

#5 - I have been to the first four but never visited this one. It's a little farther east than my travels have taken me.

#6 - A vintage Caddy leads the horses with a pretty large structure in the background. Any ideas, if so let us know. Definitely not a small town setting.

#7 - Can you figure out the location of this U.S. track? It was said to be the model for a modern day Canadian track.

#8 - This rather picturesque setting graced the program cover at this location for many years. Any good guesses?

#9 - No grandstand in this photo from 50 years ago but maybe the neighbourhood in the background will help in the identification process.

#10 - This looks like a window washer's dream. Can you come up with the answer as to where it is located?

Bonus Photo: Who might this young lad be? Should be an easy one.

This week's pictures again failed to stump the experts but I think it took some extra work to figure them out. The correct answers were as follows:

# 1 - Leamington Raceway. Probably the third or fourth grandstand on that property over three centuries.
# 2 - Pompano Park, Fla.
# 3 - Garden City, St. Catharines, Ont.
# 4 - Wolverine Raceway in Livonia, Michigan
# 5 - Summerside, P.E.I. during Lobsterfest
# 6 - Foxboro Downs, located between Boston and Providence, R.I .
# 7 - Scioto Downs in Columbus, Ohio. Rideau Carleton stand followed their design
# 8 - Dresden Raceway
# 9 - London's Western Fair track
# 10 - Quebec City

The bonus picture was correctly identified by several as Larry Walker. Thanks folks for joining in and making the effort worthwhile.
