With the Ontario Sires Stakes season officially in the books for another season, all that’s left to do is hand out the hardware to the leading performers and participants from the provincial program

.

This year’s Lampman Cup was won by Randy Waples, who won 24 OSS events over the course of the season while banking in excess of $1.5 million in earnings and racking up 389 points. Scott Zeron, last year’s Lampman Cup winner, was second best in the points standings with 340, while Jody Jamieson finished third with 314.

This is the first time Waples has won the Lampman Cup, which was established in 1987 in memory of long time Ontario Jockey Club harness racing publicist Jim Lampman.

Waples, who guided home China Pearls and Waasmula to wins in their respective OSS Super Finals this season, was also paired up with OSS stars such as Class Of O Nine, I Found My Beach and Witch Way.

Bob McIntosh, who is no stranger to hauling home OSS hardware, captured the Johnston Cup for the fourth consecutive season and for the seventh time in his career. The Johnston Cup was established in 1993 in memory of Bruce Johnston, the publisher of the Canadian Sportsman.

McIntosh’s pupils won 17 OSS events this season while racking up $730,360 along the way. The 260 points racked up by McIntosh trainees earned him the title over Mark Steacy (221) and Dave Menary (218).

Two of McIntosh’s prized performers in the OSS this past season were I Found My Beach and Class Of O Nine.

Congratulations to these two fellows who have each dedicated a lifetime to being the absolute best at what they do. While they are recognized as being at the "Top" of the list, everyone who competes in the OSS is to be commended for their efforts and dedication.
