Pennsylvania Agriculture Secretary George Greig has gone on the record in regard to the recently-concluded standardbred horse sales in Harrisburg
.
Secretary Greig's comments came via a general media release, which stated, among other things, that the sale's 1,096 yearlings averaged $31,161, which marked the fifth time in seven years that the previous year's average has been topped.
The release also stated that the two-day mixed sale grossed one per cent higher than last year, at $20.9 million; and that mares, colts and stallions averaged nearly $22,000 --- nearly equal to the 2010 average.
"This sale shows the quality of Pennsylvania's racing industry and reminds us of the importance of the equine sector to our economy," Secretary Greig was quoted as saying.
