Canadians Shell Out The Big Bucks

The Black Book Sale continued on Wednesday, November 9 at Harrisburg's Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex Sales Arena with Canadian buyers digging deep into their pockets during the third yearling session

Canadians purchased six of the top 10 highest priced yearlings of the day.

The $100,000 sale topper was purchased by New York's Fam Alber and the Adam Victor & Son Stable from the Hanover Shoe Farms consignment. Suzelle Hanover, selling as Hip 806, is a bay filly by Kadabra out of Susies Image, a full-sister to 1998 Canadian Trotting Classic runner-up Stormont Tuscany ($875,082).

Coming in second was another Hanover Shoe Farms Kadabra filly, Lily Pad Hanover. Selling as Hip 576, the bay filly out of Letterfromshanghai was purchased by New York's Richard Norman for $92,000.

Antzinthepantz was collared for $85,000 by Cheltenham, Ontario's David Menary, acting as agent. The bay colt, selling as Hip 591, is a son of Angus Hall and Lookin At You Babe from the consignment of Vieux Carre Farms, agent. He is a full-sibling to OSS Graduate and half-million dollar earning Caught My Eye.

Menary also purchased Tarpon Hanover, Hip 820, for $82,000 from Hanover Shoe Farms. The brown colt is by Badlands Hanover and out of Tarport Herald. He is a half-sibling to $797,419 earner Tarver Hanover and $614,437 earner Tarpaulin Hanover.

Selling for $75,000 to New York's Arden Homestead Stable was Hip 655, Keystone Sadie, a bay Yankee Glide filly out of Keystone Sirena. She was consigned by agent Vieux Carre Farms.

Superbo Hanover, Hip 794, garnered a $72,000 bid from agent Ben Stafford of Delaware. Consigned by Hanover Shoe Farms, the bay colt is a son of Dragon Again out of Sub Rosa Hanover.

Quebec's Richard Berthiaume Inc. purchased Murmur Hanover, Hip 640, for a price tag of $70,000 from Hanover Shoe Farms. The bay colt is a son of Majestic Son and Mrs Ronerail, a full-sister to 2001 Maple Leaf Trot runner-up Dr Ronerail ($768,725).

Richard Berthiaume Inc. also dished out $65,000 for Badland Shadow, a bay Badlands Hanover colt out of millionaire pacer Shadow Play's half-sister Selinass Joy. Selling as Hip 744, the colt was consigned by the Winbak Sales Agency.

Jeff Gillis of Hillsburg, Ont. purchased Lilly Rei for $65,000 from the Winbak Farm consignment. Selling as Hip 582, the bay filly is by Badlands Hanover out of millionaire pacer Hi Ho Silverheels' half-sister Lilly Pad.

Rounding out the top 10 toppers was Pounce Hanover, purchased for $62,000 by the Rick Zeron Stable of Oakville, Ont. Another Hanover Shoe Farms consiged bay colt, Hip 697 is by Majestic Son out of Playwood.

A total of 794 horses has been sold so far for a total of $28,665,500, with the average price at $36,103.

The yearling portion of the sale continues Thursday at 10 a.m. with Hip Nos. 855 through 1139 passing through the sales ring. The final two mixed sessions on Friday and Saturday will feature Hip Nos. 1150 through 2309.
