Winning Appeal For Wrangler Magic

Published: October 9, 2015 04:05 pm EDT

On Friday, October 9, the Ontario Racing Commission released its decision regarding an appeal by the owners and trainer of Wrangler Magic. The appeal was in regard to the Ontario Sires Stakes Gold race that took place on August 3, 2015 at Grand River Raceway.

Wrangler Magic’s ownership is comprised of Thomas Kyron, Dr. Maurice Stewart, Brian Paquet and Bayama Farms, Inc. Wrangler Magic is trained by Stephane Larocque.

Solar Sister (who was driven by Doug McNair) won the race in question and Wrangler Magic (Sylvain Filion) finished second.

Larocque and Wrangler Magic’s ownership partners launched the appeal against the ORC judges’ decision that day. The judges’ decision had been that Solar Sister did not violate the ‘passing lane’ rule in the home stretch.

On September 9, an ORC appeal panel ruled that Solar Sister did violate the passing lane rule (SB Rule 22.05.02.2 [ii]). As a result, Solar Sister has been placed behind Wrangler Magic in the official order of finish for Race 2 at Grand River Raceway on August 3, 2015 (SB Rule 22.09).

I bet a straight exacta with Wrangler Magic on top of Solar Sister.
Where do I go to cash?

There does seem to be a need for a way of getting the money back into hands of those that rightfully deserve to have it.

For a few dollars, a lost fan is just not worth it. Imagine if this would have been a huge payout... lawsuit?

I was at the races that day and could clearly see that the horse in question was in the wrong and should have been placed back also having a win 'place and show ticket on Wrangler Magic I only received money for place and show but was really entitled to the win money too How are they going to figure that one out. How many other people are out money

I agree with Wayne 100%. It is something I have been pushing for a couple of years. I often wonder if a drone would work for an overhead view.

About as obvious a decision as I have ever seen. Sadly the fans/bettors have suffered far too many egregious errors by the race track judges. It is long overdue for one North American central site for professional judges to decide for all harness tracks.

The correct decision based on how the rule is written. In fairness the horses could have gone around a third time and Filion would have still finished second. Not sure what rule the judges were looking at that day as it is clear how it is written. Mr Minler
brings up the fact that there was no interference but this has no bearing on the passing lane criteria.

The correct decision based on how the rule is written, is that, Solar Sister is supposed to keep a straight line in the stretch. The passing lane wasn't designed for Solar Sister. I'm just glad that I wasn't burned,(betting on the race)as a bettor on that race.
