Spyglass Volo Tops Session Two

The second session of the 2011 Lexington Selected Yearling Sale took place on Tuesday evening in Kentucky, and for the second straight night a number of six-figure purchases were made

.

Spyglass Volo, a Donato Hanover colt out of the $1.2 million-winning mare Stroke Play, topped Tuesday’s session. Consigned by Kentuckiana Farms, the well-bred youngster was purchased for $210,000 by Gerald and Norman Smiley along with Theresa Silva.

A trio of yearlings – Mattie Terror Girl, Mindset and Gliding Light - sold for $150,000 price tags

Mattie Terror Girl, the Western Terror full sister to multiple stakes winners Straight Shooting and Drop The Ball, was purchased by Big Als Stables Inc. of Woodbridge, ON. The filly was consigned by Walnut Hall Stock Farm.

Mindset, an American Ideal colt who is the first foal out of the $100,000-winning mare Has An Attitude, was purchased by agent Tony Alagna of Sorrento, FL. The colt was consigned by Brittany Farms.

Gliding Light, a daughter of Yankee Glide-PJ Naomi, was purchased by agent Robert Lindstrom for Thomas Persson Finans AB of Boden, Sweden. The full sister to this year’s NJSS Final winner in the two-year-old colt and gelding trot division, Vic Smith, was consigned by Kentuckiana Farms.

A total of 159 yearlings went through the ring during Tuesday’s second session, with the sales totaling $7,065,000 for an average of $44,443. Overall there have been 271 yearlings sell for $15,966,000. The sale average for 2011 is $58,915.

The auction will continue through Friday, Oct. 7. Wednesday's session starts at 7:00 p.m.
