Horsemen and fans are reminded that beginning this Tuesday, February 1, all of Yonkers Raceway's overnight races shall be contested at the distance of a mile-and-one-sixteenth
.
"It's something we've been discussing for a while," track general manager Bob Galterio said. "We think it's going to get more outside horses into the race earlier."
This 'new' distance -- a first since the Raceway re-opened in October, 2006 -- remains in effect until further notice. The mile-and-one-sixteenth distance had been implemented any number of times before, but never exclusively over a long period.
Please be advised that all series and stakes races remain at the flat mile distance.
