Hie On Life

82-year-old Carman Hie and his 75-year-old brother Doug have combined for almost 200 training starts and 100 drives in 2026 - but they’ll still look you in the eye and tell you they’re both retired! After a lifetime in the business they love, the brothers recently sat down with us in the Kawartha Downs backstretch to share some stories and some laughs, while reminiscing about family, horses and a combined 157 years in racing. By Dan Fisher.

Couldn't agree more with the posts! Drove many times for Roger over the years. Left us way to early.

I have known the Hies for a long time, even knew Cliff and his wife. (Father and mother)
Great family ,always willing to help you. Great horsemanship.
Had some great horses
Back in 1962 at Rideau Carleton raced against them not Roger or Doug they were young then. Carmen is a year younger then me.
Keep things rolling Carmen and Doug.
All the best

Mr Fisher finally an article of one of the best horsemen in the business.
But better than that too absolutely wonderful people and their families that you'll ever meet
Thank you
