A total of 11 aged distaffers have been drawn into a pair of $3,062 third-leg divisions of the Erwin Andrew Memorial Pacing Series, which will head postward Friday, September 2 at Exhibition Park Raceway
.
The series, which is co-sponsored by Meridian Farms, Standardbred Canada and the host raceway, is for aged pacing mares that are Canadian-sired and/or 100 per cent Canadian owned.
Friday's third-leg divisions have been carded as Race 5 and Race 8 on the 13-dash program. First-race post time is 4:00 p.m.
The opening division, which will see five lasses place their noses on the starting gate, is headlined by 5-2 morning-line favourite J K Special (PP3), who will parade out onto the track for co-owning trainer Joseph Smallwood and driver Walter Cheverie.
The six-year-old daughter of Cammibest recently had her two-race win streak snapped when she finished third in the $8,250 final of the Spud Island Classic at the Charlottetown Driving Park. The mare had started from Post 6 in the dash and had found herself seventh early. She did come with a rush, and was three wide at one point, but she could not reel in the front end, even though she paced in 1:57 and capped off her mile with a :28.4 closing quarter.
The early nod in the second division has gone to the rail horse, seven-year-old Dexter Nukes bay Grace And Harv, who has been installed as the 5-2 early choice for trainer Wayne Bell and driver Mike Stevenson.
The lass is also coming into the dash off a loss in the final of the Spud Island Classic. In the August 20 tilt, Stevenson and his mount had drawn Post 2, but the mare ended up making a break behind the gate. In an effort to get back into the race, the mare went for the lead in the middle half and raced overland for quite a stretch. She ended up finishing fifth and was individually clocked in 1:57.3.
