Winbak Farm has reported the passing of the stakes-winning pacing broodmare CR Daniella, 30, and trotting stallion Political Briefing, 22.
Winbak Farm reported today that CR Daniella, p, 2, 1:53.3; 3, 1:52.1; 1:52 ($638,851) was euthanized on Aug. 24 due to complications of her age.
The 22-time winner was accomplished as both a racehorse and a broodmare. She was the 1994 USHWA Dan Patch Award winner as Two-Year-Old Pacing Filly of the Year. At two, CR Daniella won the Lou Babic Memorial elimination and final, Molly Pitcher Stakes, New Jersey Futurity division, four New Jersey Sires Stakes divisions and two finals, and a Sweetheart Pace elimination. She was second in New Jersey Fair Stakes and Sweetheart Pace final. At three, CR Daniella won a John Simpson Sr. Stakes division, two New Jersey Sire Stakes divisions and final. At four, she won a Cape & Cutter Series leg and was second in an Overbid Series leg and Rancocas Series leg.
“CR Daniella had been owned by Winbak Farm since 2004,” said Jack Burke, General Manager. “She was an outstanding broodmare who was a 100 per cent producer of winners.”
From 12 foals, CR Daniella produced 12 winners (six in 1:53) including:
- 49-time winner and NYSS winner Mixed Media, p, 2, 1:56.3h; 1:52.4f ($322,675)
- 37-time winner CR Fixed Asset, p, 2, 1:55.4; 3, 1:54; 1:51.1f ($300,530)
- 30-time winner CR Gunsmoke, p, 3, 1:54.1f; 1:52.3f ($185,404)

- CR Cowboy Jake, p, 2, Q1:56.4; 3, 1:53.1s; 1:52.4h ($119,495)
“CR Daniella’s pedigree has continued in the Winbak Farm broodmare band with her daughter Kates Joy,” noted Burke. “CR Daniella lived to the golden age of 30. Winbak Farm is committed to its band of retired mares and she is just one example of many who have been able to enjoy retirement while still receiving the best of care from our team.”
CR Daniella most recently made headlines for being the “adoptive” mother to Courtly Choice, who was an orphan after his dam, Lady Ashlee Ann, succumbed to complications from foaling.
“CR Daniella will be greatly missed. She was a great racehorse who was also a great mother,” said Burke. “We would like to extend our condolences to the Allen family because CR Daniella was a very special horse to them as well.”
Winbak Farm also reported the passing of Political Briefing, 2, 1:58; 3, Q1:56.2 ($340,333). Political Briefing had stood at Winbak Farm of Delaware before retiring. He was euthanized due to lameness issues.
At two, Political Briefing won the Champlain Stakes, Harriman Cup and two New Jersey Sires Stakes divisions and final. He was second in a Breeders Crown elimination, Campbellville Stakes and Peter Haughton Memorial final.
Political Briefing was a half-brother to Bluegrass Stakes winner Self Professed, 2, 1:56.2; 3, 1:54; 1:53 ($1,199,954).
“Winbak Farm is proud to have been the breeder of Political Briefing,” said Burke. “We were happy to be able stand him in the rich state of Delaware for his stallion career.”
As a stallion, Political Briefing sired 11 winners of $100,000+ including Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund final winners:
