Georgian Downs’ 2021 meet comes to a close on Tuesday, Aug. 31 and the card includes the Ontario Standardbred Adoption Society’s 25th Anniversary race as the sixth on the evening’s program, which features young pacers from across the country.
Leaving from post eight is Hardy Mill Joe, a transplant from down east who will be making his fourth Ontario start on Tuesday having started his career at Truro Raceway in Nova Scotia. The son of Sportswriter is owned by Hardy Mill Stable and Ken Hardie of Bedford, N.S. He’s a half-brother to the iron tough Highland Tartan, who has more than half a million banked and is still grinding it out at Yonkers as a 10-year-old.
Starting from post four is Talisman Seelster, who will be making his first Ontario start on Tuesday. Bred in Ontario by Seelster Farms, the Sunshine Beach colt started his career at Fraser Downs in B.C. under the tutelage of Rod Therres. Paul Tolmazoff now trains and co-owns with Ryan Slattery. Talisman is also a brother to a $500,000+ winner in Tessa Seelster ($566,589).
Making the winner’s circle presentation tomorrow evening on behalf of OSAS will be Susan and Bert Mollica along with their son Christopher. The Mollicas’ farm serves as a foster facility for OSAS and Bert is a wonderful trainer for Standardbreds transitioning from the racetrack to a career as a riding horse. Read their story on the OSAS website here.
