“When you can breed Rainbow Blue to Somebeachsomewhere, that’s a good combination.”
There is more than a good reason for trainer George Teague Jr. and K And R Racing LLC to be excited for Somwherovrarainbow's stakes prospects, seeing as though the two-year-old filly is by the great Somebeachsomewhere and out of iron-tough speedster Rainbow Blue.
After a pair of qualifying spins at the Meadowlands Racetrack in June, the homebred made her pari-mutuel debut July 6 at Harrah's Philadelphia. In the tilt, Somwherovrarainbow fired from Post 7 for pilot Montrell Teague, was first at every call and cruised home in :28.3 for an open-length victory in 1:54.2.
On Saturday (July 14), Somwherovrarainbow will be making her stakes debut in Race 6, a division of the Pennsylvania Sire Stakes' Sand Tart Stakes, on the Meadow's 15-dash program. Montrell Teague is scheduled to be at her lines from Post 3, and the pair has been assessed at odds of 7-2, the second morning-line choice in the field of eight.
“When you can breed Rainbow Blue to Somebeachsomewhere, that’s a good combination,” Teague told the Meadows' media department. “It looks like [Somebeachsomewhere will] be a dynamite stallion. She [Somwherovrarainbow] has nice size, a gorgeous gait and a good head on her. She has all the tools. We put her in a couple Grand Circuit events, but we’ll let her dictate what we do.”
Somwherovrarainbow is not the only high-end two-year-old that will be in action during the PASS divisions at the Meadows Saturday. One of the other notables that is scheduled to be in action is another George Teague trainee, Lloyds Lady (Race 9, PP4, M. Teague, 8-1), whose mom, millionaire Sanabelle Island, won her first 23 career races.
Lloyds Lady wasn’t quite as precocious in her career opener, as the $25,000 yearling purchase broke stride leaving in the PA All Stars. “We’ll open her up a little bit more, and maybe she won't get so grabby behind the gate,” Teague said. “Sanabelle Island was a fun horse to watch. She did a lot of her racing in the Maryland-Delaware area, so we could see her up close.”
Other top juveniles scheduled to contest Sand Tart divisions include:
- Wherethegirlsare (Race 8, PP2, T. Hall), daughter of millionaire Cabrini Hanover, three-year-old pacing filly of the year in 2005;
- Live Entertainment (Race 1, PP3, T. Hall), half-sister to See You At Peelers, the Dan Patch Award winner at both two and three.
The Sand Tart is the centrepiece of the Meadows’ 'Back to the Track' celebration, which will also feature fireworks, a driver 'dunk tank,' a losing-ticket raffle and a patio party with a DJ.
