Rookies To Surface At Mohawk

Friday's (June 11) morning session at Woodbine Mohawk Park marks the much-anticipated debut of the full sister to a Hambletonian winner along with progeny of first-crop sires Walner and Resolve slated to earn their first charted lines, while a quartet of six-figure babies headline Saturday's (June 12) session for juvenile pacers.

A total of 46 two-year-old trotters have been entered for Friday's qualifying card, which will begin at 9:30 a.m.

Trade Secret, sister of 2019 Hambletonian winner Forbidden Trade, attracted the highest price tag of any of the trotters to spar in seven races specifically for two-year-olds — she sold for $100,000 to Serge Godin's Determination. As was, and is, the case with Forbidden Trade, Bob McClure will drive the daughter of Kadabra and Pure Ivory for trainer Luc Blais; they will start from post one in the fourth race.

Southwind Domino, a member of the first crop of former two-year-old champion Walner, makes his debut in the second qualifier. The colt, out of Drinking Class, will be driven by owner Gino Toscani for trainer Herbert Holland.

Four of Resolve's offspring will face the starting gate as well: Unresolved Debt and Duly Resolved for trainer John Bax, Resolute Bay for TheStable.ca and trainer John McKinnon, and Clockwork Orange for trainer Blake MacIntosh.

Saturday morning's session attracted 57 pacers, including Steve Heimbecker's $125,000 acquisition Pearl Snaps. Doug McNair is listed to drive the son of first-crop sire Fear The Dragon from post six in the first race for MacIntosh, one of 14 pacers from his stable slated to qualify.

In the sixth race, Dr. Ian Moore trainee Shadowy will likely have to reach for lofty expectations, given that she is a full sister of 2018 Breeders Crown winner Percy Bluechip and a half-sister to New York standout Kenneth J, who earned nearly $1.6 million. Bob McClure will drive the Shadow Play-Advantest filly whom the Let It Ride Stables and Bottom Line Racing purchased for $100,000.

Another offspring of Shadow Play that fetched a six-figure purchase price — Shadowmoon Rising — will make his first start for Moore in the day's third qualifier. The colt out of Lofty Yankee is a full brother to 15-time winner and multiple Ontario Sires Stakes Gold winner Shadow Moon, and will be driven by Tyler Moore for Ian Moore, R G McGroup Ltd., Serge Savard and Hudson Standardbred Stable.

Ats Hanover — a full brother to Cane Pace winner, Confederation Cup runner-up and millionaire Dynamic Youth — leads the fifth qualifying race, and will start from post six in line to Jody Jamieson. Dave Menary trains the son of Bettors Delight and Always True, whom Menary Guerriero, Steve Heimbecker, Alan Alber and P B G Stables purchased for $125,000 as a yearling.
