Driver Jordan Comegna earned his first lifetime win while piloting two-year-old Highrise Hanover to his own maiden victory on Wednesday, Aug. 26 at Grand River Raceway.
The feat involved three generations of Comegnas, as Jordan’s father Nicky trains the Tall Dark Stranger-High Minded gelding for his father, Bruno.
Jordan hit the gas with the $35,211 Harrisburg purchase, bringing the gelding to the front off the car in the $11,000 non-winners-of-one pace. High Rise Hanover reached the quarter in :28 and had a significant breather to the midway point in :59.3. Comegna hustled his charge down the back to three-quarters in 1:28.4, and High Rise Hanover resisted pocket-sitter Avalanche (Travis Cullen) down the lane to win by 1-1/2 lengths in 1:58.2. Mcdonald (Scott Young) finished third. High Rise Hanover’s first win came in his fifth start and brought $6.80 to his backers.
Jordan Comegna is now one-for-11 since his driving debut in June. The 26-year-old Cambridge, Ont. resident finished third in that race, also at Grand River, and is now 1-2-3 for 11 starts.
