Jimmy Brown Passes

Published: June 26, 2019 03:58 pm EDT

Jimmy Brown peacefully passed away at Glen Hill Strathaven Lifecare Centre on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at the age of 66.

Loving brother to Vicki (Bayne) Gimblett. Dear uncle of Dwayne, Norman (Rhonda) and Clinton (Jen). He will be sadly missed by many relatives and cousins, especially Louise. Predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Wilma.

Just about everyone that has spent time at Kawartha Downs over the past 40-50 years knows who Jimmy Brown was. The son of former OJC starter Ernie Brown, Jimmy was a fixture at Kawartha for many years, in both the backstretch and the grandstand – but Jimmy's favourite place was the winner's circle. Many times each evening, especially if a race was won by Dougie or Gordie Brown (close family friends but not related), Jimmy would be found celebrating the victory in the winner's circle.

Always one to share some funny stories, and happy to chat with everyone, Jimmy was loved by all of those around the Kawartha backstretch, and was even spotted many times over the years in the Greenwood winner's circle as well – especially after a Doug Brown victory.

A celebration of life will be held for Jimmy at the Tyrone Hall (2716 Concession Rd 7, Bowmanville, Ont.) on Sunday, July 14, from 1 - 3 p.m.

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the family and friends of Jimmy Brown.

Gord and Jimmy Brown, all smiles in the winner’s circle.

I am so sorry to hear of Jim's passing. I first met Jim when his mom brought him from Hampton to Port Perry for public skating, at about 9 years of age. Jim was a year older than myself and my mother and Jim's chatted while we skated. Later in life I met Jim again in the backstretch at Kawartha Downs while grooming for my great friend Ron Luke of Hampton, and our mutual friend Stan "Steamer" Stephens. I would usually buy Jim his favourite "cheeseburger" at the track snack bar, and he would most times point out for me horses Doug Brown had in that night, leaving mustard streaks over the pages of my program, lol! Jim had a kind heart, a huge smile for all he met, and always enriched your night with his presence. Stay safe Jim!

RIP Jimmy.
