Henry Doucette Passes

Prince Edward Island lost a respected member of the standardbred and business community this week with the passing of Henry J. Doucette of Summerside.

Among the horses Doucette owned was the former Maritime Invitational pacer Warrantable. One of his proudest moments in racing was seeing Warrantable compete in the 1994 Gold Cup and Saucer, after finishing second in Trial II to eventual winner Nuclear Flash. Doucette's son, Philip, is an active owner/ trainer/ driver, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Prince County Horsemen's Club at Summerside Raceway.

Henry is survived by his wife, Theresa (Perry) Doucette; children Philip (Marlene) Doucette, Miscouche; Gloria (Donald) Hackett, North Cape; Darlene Doucette, Summerside; Robert (Nancy) Doucette, Tignish; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters Rita Perry, Doris Gaudet (Emmanuel), Dorothy Bernard, Leo (Doris) Doucette, Victor Doucette, Gladys Gorrill (Bill), Dianne (Victor) Hogan, and Marlene (Ron) Stuart. Predeceased by his son-in-law, Harry Curran; and by brothers-in-law Louis Perry, Emile Gaudet, Omer Bernard, and Lloyd Gorrill.

Funeral was held Friday, June 15, at St. John The Baptist Church, Miscouche. Memorial donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated.
