The Maritime Provinces Harness Racing Commission (MPHRC) would like to remind all trainers of their responsibilities under Rule 149 of the MPHRC Rulebook regarding Coggins Test certificates.
Rule 149(1) states that it is the responsibility of the trainer to ensure that all horses in their custody have a valid negative Coggins Test certificate. The rule further requires that proof of a valid negative Coggins test be provided to the Race Secretary before a horse is declared to race.
Trainers are encouraged to review the status of their horses' Coggins tests regularly and ensure that current certificates are submitted to the race office before entering their horses.
The MPHRC has issued the following reminders to trainers:
- It is the trainer's responsibility to ensure all horses in their care have a valid negative Coggins Test certificate.
- Proof of a valid negative Coggins test must be provided to the Race Secretary before a horse can be declared to race.
- Horses with expired Coggins tests are not eligible to start.
- No horse without a valid Coggins test is permitted on an MPHRC licensed racetrack.
- Horses without proof of a valid negative Coggins test on file with Standardbred Canada may be placed on the Judges' List.
The Commission appreciates everyone's cooperation in ensuring compliance with Rule 149 and helping race offices process entries efficiently.
