The Harness Horse Breeders of New York State has issued a memo on Buffalo Raceway's policy regarding the recent Equine Herpes Virus-1 (EHV-1) cases in Canada.

Until further notice, beginning Friday, May 31, a horse that is being shipped in from Canada; or has been previously shipped in from Canada that is in any way considered “questionable” because of its recent participation in Canada or past residence in Canada may participate in the races at Buffalo Raceway under the following conditions.

For the New York Sire Stakes on Saturday, June 1, 2013:

  • The trainer of the horse must provide Buffalo Raceway with a NASAL SWAB PCR FOR HERPES certificate before entering the stable area; and
  • The horse will be required to have a temperature check at track vets office before entering ship in barn.

For overnight races:

  • The trainer of the horse must provide Buffalo Raceway with a NASAL SWAB PCR FOR HERPES certificate before it can be ENTERED in a race.
  • No horse currently stabled at the Campbellville farm in Ontario will be allowed to participate until further notice.

The Harness Horse Breeders of New York State ask for the full cooperation of horsemen on this matter.
