Trainers were sifting through horses like panning for gold at the spring Blooded Horse Sale

“It was the biggest crowd I’ve ever seen at a spring sale,” said Blooded Horse Sales Vice President Charley Morgan. “Lots of people were out in the barns, and you could hardly move in the holding area.”
Condensed into a strong, one-day venue, both the sale topper and runner up sold near the end of the 443-horse catalogue.
What It Means topped the sale for consignor Patrick Lachance. The $25,000 claimer at Chester Racetrack moves to Vernon Downs on a $23,000 bid from trainer David Dewhurst for Phillip Hale.
Mystery Chase, an extremely classy winner of $754,000, created quite a stir when he entered the ring. Though the son of Real Desire hadn’t raced in a year, his potential as a competitor and sire fetched a bid of $17,000 from Leslie Roberts of New York.
Tracy Brainard signed the ticket for a pair of higher-class claimers to race in New York. She added Rev It Now to her trotting roster for $13,000 and Mighty Me to her pacers for $11,500.
Mr Moonlight, another nice trotter racing in the $14,000 claimers at the Meadows, was purchased by William Johnson of Ohio for $13,000. The four-year-old pacing gelding Butn Your Shirt Ed racing competitively in Michigan for trainer Penny Howard, stayed in Michigan on a $12,000 bid from Britney Dillon.
