Trot Insider has learned that O'Brien Award winning millionaire pacer Secrets Nephew has passed away at the age of 19.
"It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that Faith Valley Ranch announces the passing of Alberta stallion Secrets Nephew," said the farm in a statement, noting that the stallion passed away in late March. "[He] was fine in the morning and we found him that afternoon laying in his paddock. Our vet is confident that Secrets Nephew suffered an Aneurysm.
"We are devastated. Although 'Secrets' had only been with us here in Alberta for one year, he was certainly one of the farm favourites from the get go," the statement continued. "We loved him dearly and really enjoyed his sweet personality. He will be forever missed. We have buried Secrets here on the farm underneath his favourite tree."
The farm had 10 mares booked to Secrets Nephew this season at the time of his passing and "were so looking forward to his foals."
The son of Camluck-Table For Seven, who retired from racing with 36 wins, purse earnings of $1,193,648 and a race record of 1:48.4, was regarded by many as the iron horse that tackled some of the finest horses in the nation week in and week out for trainer/driver and co-owner Lyle MacArthur. MacArthur shared ownership of his homebred during his career with co-breeder Frank Grandinetti. After his racing retirement in 2010, Secrets Nephew stood stud at Mac Lilley Farms in Dutton, Ont. His home was at Mac Lilley Farms right up until moving to Alberta last summer in 2020. In limited stallion opportunity, his starters averaged more than $62,000.
Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the connections of Secrets Nephew.
