Harrington Raceway’s 66th season of live harness racing will get underway Sunday, April 22
with a 13-race program.
Promotions are aplenty on the opening-night program, as a family fun day with face painting, pony rides, balloon art, etc. and a hat giveaway are planned. There will also be $1 programs and $1 hot dogs.
Two-time defending driving champ Ross Wolfenden (204 wins) will be back in pursuit of a third straight title. He is slated to drive in 10 races Sunday. Meanwhile, trainer George Teague (69 wins) is back after earning his first training title in 2011. While the Harrington-stabled Teague doesn’t have any horses entered Sunday, he does have three horses competing on the Monday program.
Live racing will continue on a Sunday through Thursday (first-race post time 5:30 p.m.) schedule before the track’s month-long hiatus; which prefaces the first-ever evening card of racing on Governor’s Day during the Delaware State Fair --- an annual event which showcases Delaware’s top owned/bred horses and boasts purses in excess of $600,000. First-race post time for the special Governor’s Day program is 7:00 p.m. Live racing will then be conducted on a Monday through Thursday schedule beginning August 13 and wrapping up October 29.
The track’s signature race, the Bobby Quillen Memorial will go postward with eliminations (if necessary) on September 10 and final on September 17.
