ROMP Trio Enroute To WHHC

Just over a year ago Roy Sproxton, Don Sproxton and Bill Pritchard teamed up to win the 2012 ROMP Handicapping League, presented by the Racetracks of Ontario Marketing & Promotions Partnership.

Under the moniker of “The Three Stooges,” the trio competed in the eight week tournament that included 80 teams and 220 players at seven racetracks.

The Three Stooges took home the $5,000 Grand Prize in the finals for their winning efforts and as part of their package, each has received entry into this year’s World Harness Handicapping Championship. They’ll go as a team but they’ll be competing individually.

Roy Sproxton has been a fan of harness racing for over 25 years and is also a horse owner, racing under Blue Oak Stables. This will be his very first trip to The Big M. Roy, a resident of Brampton, has competed in past TROT Canada National Handicapping Championships and in 2009 he won the championship title and took home a cheque for $25,000 from the event which was held at Rideau Carleton Raceway in Ottawa.

Roy is in the Corporate Sales industry and attends the races about once a month. The Raceway at Western Fair District is his favourite track, and if he’s lucky enough to take home the winner’s cheque, he’ll be taking his family to Disneyland.

Don Sproxton, a retired firefighter who resides in Mississauga, is Roy’s Father and will compete against his son at the WHHC. Don is an avid racing fan and is no stranger to Handicapping contests. Don was also a competitor in the 2009 TCNHC.

A self-taught horseplayer, Don plans to invest the cash should he win the lion’s share of the WHHC prize money.

The third member from the Three Stooges who will also be making the trip to the WHHC is longtime racing fan Bill Pritchard from Oakville.

The 2013 World Harness Handicapping Championship will bring together horseplayers from across North America to compete for $100,000 in prize money on Saturday, April 13, 2013. The WHHC is a partnership between the Meadowlands and the United States Trotting Association formed to create the industry’s ultimate tournament experience. Standardbred Canada supports the project by facilitating the participation of Canadian racing and wagering outlets.

Limited to just 100 spots, the WHHC is a one-day tournament, with a welcome reception and warm-up event the evening prior. Players must earn a seat in the WHHC through a qualifying event at a partner wagering outlet.

The player with the highest bankroll based on wagering from 10 races will be the winner. Prize money will be awarded to the top 10 finishers, and all players will keep their winnings.
