Winbak Farm has reported the passing of pacing broodmare Spring Break, who was euthanized due to unresolvable lameness issues, at the age of 22.

Spring Break, p, 2, 1:57.4h; 3, 1:50.3z ($787,057), was bred and raised by Winbak Farm. The daughter of Dream Away out of Siobhan was a 39-time winner.

“Spring Break was a special mare to me because she raced phenomenally for us before we retired to be a broodmare,” said Joe Thomson, Winbak Farm Owner. “She was a great producer, her babies always had an athletic look to them and they sold well.”

As a two-year-old, Spring Break won the Lou Babic Memorial and a New Jersey Sire Stakes division. She was third in divisions of the Molly Pitcher Stakes, Reynolds Stakes and Tompkins-Geers Stakes.

At three, Spring Break won a leg of the Andray Farm Series and the final. She was second in two other Andray Farm Series legs and a New Jersey Sire Stakes division. She was third in a Maryland Stakes, two New Jersey Sire Stakes divisions and a division of the Tompkins-Geers Stakes.

In her aged campaign, she won many Preferred races in Pennsylvania.

As a broodmare, Spring Break was a 100 per cent producer. She is the dam of 66-time winner Bettor Than Spring, p, 3, 1:52.1f; 1:49.2h ($978,541), 30-time winner Tuxedo Bay, p, 2, 1:54.4s; 3, 1:53.1s; 1:50 ($424,459), 20-time winner Spring Blake, p, 3, 1:52.2f; 1:49.1f -'25 ($307,564), and multiple 2025 Prospect Series division winner Cabo San Lucas, p, 2, 1:55.1f -'25 ($19,000).

“Spring Break’s daughters, Break The Deal and Grip N Win, are members of the Winbak Farm broodmare band,” said Jack Burke, Winbak Farm General Manager. “They are both young; their oldest foals are three and a yearling. We look forward to them carrying the Spring Break bloodline for many years to come.”

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the connections of Spring Break.
