Andy Perry was a poor Acadian with little formal education—he taught himself to read and write English. A prohibition era rum-runner and moonshiner who opened a café because it was good cover for the unofficial tavern he became one of the most respected business owners in his community. He was a restaurateur who turned Andy’s Seafoods into one of Summerside’s best loved restaurants.

A passionate horse owner, breeder, trainer and driver, he helped save the Summerside Raceway. He was also a three-time city councillor. He was a good friend, loving husband and doting grandfather who is still remembered fondly by all who knew him. Heather Irving recounts Andy Perry’s life with flair and affection.

The second heritage award was presented to Heather Irving by the City of Summerside for Publication of the Year on February 25th.

Andy’s was released in November 2010 and is now in its second printing. It is available online at retromedia.ca and across Canada at Indigo, Chapters, Coles, and BookMark bookstores.
