The Prince Edward Island Standardbred Breeders Association (PEISBA), in partnership with the P.E.I. Harness Racing Industry Association (PEIHRIA), have announced details for the 2025 Island Horse Breeders Conference.

This year's conference is set to take place on Saturday, March 29 from 1 - 4:30 p.m. (AST) in the grandstand at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The event will begin with a presentation from Dr. Ben Stoughton of the Atlantic Veterinary College on biosecurity and virus prevention for the breeding farm. O’Brien Award-winning trainer and Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Famer Carl Jamieson will join remotely to discuss how he selects yearlings based on their pedigree. Norman Hall will discuss the software he has developed to assist breeders with stallion selection for their broodmares.

Following the guest presentations, there will be a round-table discussion on Prince Edward Island's breeding industry. The event will conclude with the PEISBA annual meeting.

Refreshments will be available throughout the day, and each attendee will receive a take-home package covering the topics discussed at the conference.

There is no registration fee for the event. Those interested in attending can fill out the registration form available on the PEIHRIA website or by emailing the PEIHRIA at [email protected]. The event will be recorded for those that are unable to attend and posted at peiharnessracing.ca.
