Frank Colville Passes

Published: December 21, 2015 08:13 pm EST

Well known Ontario horseman Frank Colville passed away today at the Port Perry, Ontario, hospital. He was 78.

Raised in Toronto, he was a long distance transport driver and heavy machinery mover until his retirement. At one time held a record for more than two million accident free miles. Frank often said he “drove more miles backwards than most people frontwards.”

The Colville family had a cottage near the Havelock area and it was there they became good friends with the LaRush and Peters families who were involved in harness racing. It was through them they discovered an interest in the sport many years ago which has continued through to today and is carried on by Frank’s daughters Joanne and Annemarie, both of whom are very involved in Ontario harness racing.

Frank held a trainer’s license for many years and always had a horse or two. Upon his retirement he often helped train his daughter Joanne’s High Stakes Stable’s horses alongside son-in-law Jack Moiseyev.

Frank is survived by daughters Joanne (Jack Moiseyev) and Annemarie (Mike Wade) and granddaughter Emma Christoforou and sister Margaret Irwin.

A celebration of life will take place this Wednesday (December 23) from 5 to 9 p.m. at the J. Scott Early funeral home in Milton (21 James Street, 905-878-2669). In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Ontario Standardbred Adoption Society (where Joanne serves as Events Co-ordinator and administrator), the Canadian Cancer Society and/or the Canadian Diabetes Association.

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the family and friends of Frank Colville.
