The 2015 Standardbred Horse Sales Company Annual Sale will offer more than 1,850 harness racing horses for public auction at the PA Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg from Monday, November 2 through Friday, November 6.
Through two days at the Standardbred Horse Sale, a total of 650 horses were sold for an average of $39,396. The average is a drop of 15.7 percent compared to the average of $46,748 for 535 horses last year.
Trotting colt Kadillac was Tuesday’s sale-topper at the Standardbred Horse Sale. The Ontario-eligible yearling, a son of stallion Kadabra out of the mare Proactive Gal, was purchased for $260,000 by Clark Beelby. Kadillac’s family includes stakes-winner Bramasole, who also is the dam of this year’s Peaceful Way winner Caprice Hill.
On Monday, a total of 258 horses were sold for an average of $55,781. The average was a decrease of 8.49 percent from last year’s opening-day mark of $60,955, when 221 yearlings were sold.
Future Secured sold for a record-equaling $500,000 during Monday’s opening day of the Standardbred Horse Sale. The price equals the auction-sales record for a yearling filly trotter, which was set by Courtney Hall in 2003. It is tied for the fourth-highest auction price for any yearling and is the highest price for a yearling at auction since Detour Hanover sold for a record $825,000 in 2011.
The Select Yearling Sale in Harrisburg continues through Wednesday, followed by the Mixed Sale on Thursday and Friday. The main catalogue features 1,015 yearlings –- 615 by Pennsylvania sires, 261 by New York sires, 100 by Ontario sires, 31 by New Jersey sires, and eight by Ohio sires. Yearlings by first-year sires including world champion Chapter Seven (31), Russell Hanover (5), Archangel (2), and Winning Mister (1) will be presented.
An 25 additional yearlings will sell sequentially as a group at the end of the day on Tuesday, November 3, following the sale of Hip 647. These yearlings will have hip numbers 2,000 – 2,024. The supplement catalogue for these yearlings will be printed for distribution at the sale, and can be downloaded at Standardbred Horse Sales Company's website from a banner on the sale's home page, or directly from the downloads page at theblackbook.com. In addition, Standardbred’s popular ‘Black Book 1 for the iPad’ from equineline.com has been updated to include the supplemented horses. Customers who have previously downloaded Black Book 1 for the iPad should delete their old version and download the newly-updated version.
