Myron Bell, racing manager of the outstanding pacing colt Captaintreacherous, and Jim Simpson, President of Hanover Shoe Farms, today announced that an agreement has been reached for the son of Somebeachsomewhere to stand stud at Hanover Shoe Farms following the completion of his 2014 racing season.
Present plans call for "The Captain" to continue racing for the duration of 2013 and through the entire racing season of 2014 before beginning starting his stallion career with the season of 2015.
Voted as the U.S. Pacer of the year in 2012 and now one of the leading candidates for U.S. Horse of the Year this season, Captaintreacherous was bred, raised and sold as a yearling by Michael Parisi's White Birch Farms. Myron Bell purchased him at the Lexington Selected Yearling Sale in 2011 for a winning bid of $250,000. Bell was acting on behalf of a group of owners which included Brittany Farms, Joe Sbrocco, Marvin Katz and Michael Parisi. Some shares in the pacer were sold to a group of prominent breeders between his two- and three-year-old racing season.
"It's the dream of a lifetime to stand a stallion at Harness Racing's greatest and most historically important breeding farm," said Myron Bell.
The colt has been trained by Tony Alagna, driven by Tim Tetrick and superbly managed by Bell throughout his illustrious racing career. "The Captain" will continue to race under his present ownership and management group "Captaintreacherous Racing" until he begins his stud career.
"He's a great horse and deserves to be at Hanover," said Jim Simpson of behalf of Hanover. "We couldn't be prouder to stand this colt alongside his great and most accomplished sire. We look forward to seeing 'The Captain' continue to race at the highest level possible and then await the beginning of his second stage in life at Hanover."
