Sixty-six standardbred yearlings, 33 colts and 33 fillies, will go under the auctioneer’s hammer today at the sixth Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition Select Sale at the Agridome Complex at Truro Raceway
.
Nova Scotia Agriculture Minister John MacDonell was expected to officially open the sale at 7:00 p.m.
“I believe this year’s selection of yearlings is one of our strongest yet,” said Vaughan Dickie, sales chair.
Among the yearlings being offered are siblings to former Atlantic Canada Horse of the Year winners Last Of Bella and Flaming Moe as well as siblings to this year’s Maritime Breeders series finalists Charlottes Coast, Seawind Allegra, C H Yocoohno and Island Redemption.
Twenty-eight of the yearlings have been consigned by Prince Edward Island breeders, 20 come from Nova Scotia farms and there are 17 horses from New Brunswick. Consignors were hoping for better results than the first Maritime yearling sale on Prince Edward Island on October 9 when the sales average was $3,200 per head.
