Opening day of the Summer Meet at The Track On 2 began with a milestone celebration as Brandon Campbell earned his 1,000th career training win on Sunday, July 19.
Standinmyshadow, trained and driven by Campbell, upset the favoured Bet On Amelia in a $3,700 claiming pace to kick off the afternoon's seven-race card.
Campbell left from post seven with Standinmyshadow to land in the pocket behind the popular pylon starter before looping to the lead after the half. Campbell kept his trainee to task down the stretch to hold clear of the resurgent Bet On Amelia and Darren Callaghan. Standinmyshadow won by a length over the 4-5 bettors' choice in 1:59.3 over the "good" track, paying $16.30 for the 7-1 upset. Captains Hideaway finished third.
Both of the lightly raced three-year-old pacer's wins have provided Campbell with milestone moments in his career. Standinmyshadow's maiden-breaking victory seven starts ago back on April 18 at Century Downs marked Campbell's 3,000th career driving win. The Shadow Play-Macho Chick gelding is owned by Raymond Henry of Calgary, Alta.
Campbell won his first training start in 2001 in Lethbridge, Alta., and his stable has since earned more than $7.1 million, with a career-best campaign in 2023 when he trained winners of 92 races and nearly $950,000 in purses. The 43-year-old Calgary, Alta. horseman currently ranks among the top five trainers in Canada with a UTRS of 0.357.
Live harness racing will take place on Sunday afternoons throughout The Track On 2's meet, with additional race dates scheduled during the last two weeks in September, including Saturday, Sept. 5, Monday, Sept. 7, Saturday, Sept. 12 and the meet finale on Wednesday, Sept. 16. Post time is 1:10 p.m. (MDT) for all race days except the Saturday cards will have a 4:10 p.m. (MDT) post time.
