It is with great sadness that Paul and Brenda Walker wish to announce the death of A Js Speed. He passed away on Wednesday (Jan. 8) at the age of 30.

A Js Speed was bred, owned, and raced by Paul and Brenda. He had 177 lifetime starts including 48 wins, 42 seconds and 18 thirds with lifetime earnings of $664,622. He raced from age three until his retirement at age 10.

A Js Speed had a very distinguished career. Unraced at two, he was a multiple Ontario Sires Stakes winner at three. He was one of the best in a year that included many future free-for-allers. He was considered the horse to beat at the end of his sires stakes year.

A Js Speed went on to a very long and fruitful career as an older horse. He was a multiple free-for-all winner, winning at Greenwood and Mohawk and other tracks on numerous occasions.

He was also an open stakes winner. He won the Earl Rowe Memorial, the Provenzano Trot at Batavia Downs, and the Tie Silk at Greenwood when it was the race that sent a Canadian representative to the prestigious International Trot at Yonkers Raceway.

As Canada's representative at the International he distinguished himself, his owners/breeders and his country by finishing a close second to the great Mack Lobell and beating Go Get Lost.

He had a long and storied career that saw him race at the top end of the scale for numerous years.

He spent his entire retirement at the farm of Paul and Brenda Walker.

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the connections of A Js Speed.

Just to clarify AJs Image was no relation to AJs Speed he was out of the mare Highland McDuff and was a green horse sold after the passing of Viola Walker. Thank You for the kind words.

"A Js Speed" was a honest professional. I remember him dominating the FFA ranks. I'll never forget when, his broken down "Balanced Image" half-brother "A Js Image," trained by Dave (Peaceful Way) Tingley, defeated his great brother in a leg of the "Horsemen's Series." Those were the good old days! I hope Dave is still active in the sport.

My condolences to the Walker Family....I must add Brenda Walker looks like this picture was taken yesterday...hasn't changed a bit!

I'm sure that I was there that day at Greenwood and I'm sure that I had him bet :) One of my all time favs... such a beautiful animal on the track. Great to know that he had a wonderful long life, but that probably doesn't make it any easier for his connections right now :(

RIP
