EHV-1 Quarantine At Saratoga Harness

On Tuesday, January 28, officials at the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets and New York State Gaming Commission received laboratory results indicating an active EHV-1 infection in a horse at Saratoga Casino Hotel.

The following signs have been noted in the tested horse and four other horses in the same barn: fever, mild coughing, and mild nasal discharge. None of the horses are showing any neurologic signs.

The affected horses are housed in Barn 29, which was put under quarantine on Wednesday, January 29 and will remain under quarantine for 21 days after the last signs of EHV-1 infection.

All horses in Barn 29 will continue to be monitored closely for fever and other signs of illness. During the quarantine period, these horses will not be permitted to leave the Saratoga Harness facility.

Exposed horses in the barn that are well enough to train may train at the end of the day after all other horses are off of the training track.

NYS Gaming Commission and NYS Agriculture and Markets will continue to provide additional updates as necessary.
