Standardbred racehorse owner William 'Bill' Kingshott of Brampton Ont. passed away peacefully at Brampton Civic Hospital on Thursday, January 24 with his wife, Shirley, and grandson, Gregory, by his side. He was 82.

A lifelong fan of horse racing, Bill worried of its future, and was quoted as saying, “I hope I live long enough to know if there will be racing after March.” As it came to be, an announcement securing racing came the day before he passed.

Bill had many interests in life. He liked all sports, and coached lacrosse and hockey in his hometown of Brampton. He had many occupations, including the family owned 'Coffee Shop' on Main St., Brampton.

Bill will be missed and remembered often. He leaves behind his wife, Shirley; son, Gary (Henrietta); grandson, Gregory, and a large box of trophies. He joins his daughter, Julie.

Arrangements entrusted to Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, Rockwood Chapel. As per Bill’s wishes, private cremation has taken place, and no funeral service will be held. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home, 519-856-1100 or send condolences to gilbertmacintyreandson.com).

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the family and friends of Bill Kingshott.

Though I hadn't seen Bill in years, I do remember his quiet demeanor, and his love of the horses. I remember him being at Gary's barn at Mohawk all the time. He was such a warm and kind man, my deepest condolences to the Kingshott family.
