Multiple reports from Ottawa on Wednesday (Feb. 15) indicate that a fire has engulfed the paddock at Rideau Carleton Raceway.
No people or horses were in the building at the time of the blaze, but reports indicate the barn was being used to store equipment.
"Thank you to the Ottawa Fire Service for their immediate response to the racing paddock fire on site tonight," said Helen MacMillan, General Manager of Rideau Carleton Casino in a statement provided to Trot Insider. "There are no injuries to people or horses and the situation is under control. No barns or other buildings were damaged and there is no impact to casino operations. Please note that access to the barns will be restricted only to people coming to feed their horses until further notice."
