Trot Insider has learned that ten-year-old Cambest gelding Luke Stallwalker had to be euthanized last night after an accident which occurred during the ninth race of the live card at Inverness Raceway.

The mishap began at the half when Luke Stallwalker -- driven by trainer Alex MacQuarrie -- made a break on the lead and caused interference to the trailing horses. Getting involved in the confusion were Cloaked In Glory (Don Kennedy) and Indicator (Lanny Hanscombe), however, none of the horses fell, but those three failed to finish the race.

"All I can really tell you is that he took a bad step out there and really did some serious damage to one of his legs," race secretary Redmond Doucet told Trot Insider this afternoon.

"He had to be put down last night about an hour after the vet saw him."

Doucet told Trot Insider that besides some scrapes and bruises, the rest of the horses and drivers involved in the incident were okay.

Having raced in 219 pari-mutuel contests, Luke Stallwalker had amassed a solid resume of 37-37-32, over $95,000 in career earnings and took his mark of 1:57.3 over Inverness at seven.

Luke Stallwalker was owned by Danny MacEachern of Inverness, NS.
