Bee Two Bee kicked clear by open lengths and kept on driving in the Reliable Motors - Richard Campbell Memorial as he tied the overall track record Saturday (Sept. 9) evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Jason Hughes came first-over with his trainee in the $7,500 Reliable Motors – Richard Campbell Memorial as the final dash of a 30-race day on Super-Saturday at the Capital oval. Bee Two Bee wore down :27.1 and :55 pacesetter Repeal Or Replace (Driven by Myles Heffernan Sr.) in the Invitational dash and took the lead past the three-quarters of 1:23.2. Repeal Or Replace would make a break in the final turn to interfere with a number of horses but Bee Two Bee was already gone as he kicked home in :26.4 to tie Ys Lotus and Sintra’s overall track record of 1:50.1 set in the 2016 Gold Cup and Saucer final.
Hughes trains Bee Two Bee for owners Donald MacRae of Vernon Bridge and Blair MacLauchlan of Charlottetown.
Hughes had six driving winners on night including some P.E.I. Colt Stakes action for three-year-old pacers on the 16-dash evening card.
Next In Line overcame an interference break at the start of the mile to score in 1:56.1 in line to Hughes in her $13,000 P.E.I. Colt Stakes three-year-old pacing filly Gold division from the Stephen Quinn barn for owner John Quinn at 14-1 odds.
Saulsbrook Abbey won another $13,000 Gold filly division in 1:55.3 for Saul, Peter and Mark Lanigan with Hughes driving. Tobins Party scored in a $8,100 P.E.I. Colt Stakes Grassroots division in race two for trainer-driver Hughes in 1:57.1.
Onlythegooddiyoung gave driver Hughes another winner in 1:57.1 in a $6,500 P.E.I. Colt Stakes Grassroots division for three-year-old pacing fillies from the Ron Matheson barn. Century Invictus was another part of a large night for trainer-driver Hughes winning the $3,600 Preferred 2 pace in 1:55 in Race 10.
Malignity held on for a narrow victory in his $16,200 P.E.I. Colt Stakes three-year-old pacing colt Gold event in 1:54.1 over Woodmere Denny (Dale Spence). Paul Langille trains and drives Malignity for owners Debbie Francis and Rosanne Langille.
Saulsbrook Ian won another $16,200 three-year-old colt Gold race in 1:53.4 for owner Red Oak Stables, trainer Jamie Smith and driver Corey MacPherson.
Rosetown Mary provided MacPherson with a colossal upset in her $13,000 P.E.I. Colt Stakes three-year-old pacing filly Gold division winning in 1:55.3 at 30-1 odds from his own stable for owners Kerry and Emily Taylor, Lisa Richards and Taylor MacPherson.
Driver Gilles Barrieau had four wins on the night scoring with Woodmere Arturo (1:59) for trainer Matheson in a $8,100 P.E.I. Colt Stakes Grassroots division for three-year-old pacing colts, along with Betternotmachme in a $6,500 three-year-old pacing filly Grassroots split in 1:57 from his own barn. Bettim Again was a front-end winner in 1:53.4 for trainer Jeff Lilley in overnight action with Barrieau driving. The final Barrieau winner was Share The Moment as she won the $5,230 Atlantic Aged Pacing Mares Series leg in 1:55.1 for Barrieau and trainer Bo Ford.
The taste of defeat has yet to hit Chip Of Evil as the filly won her sixth straight in P.E.I. Colt Stakes action on the first half of the doubleheader Super-Saturday .
Corey MacPherson supplied the winning steer in the $14,500 P.E.I. Colt Stakes Gold division for two-year-old pacing fillies as she toured the oval in 1:56.4 for trainer Eddy Doucette and owner Inarush Stable of Kensington.
Chip Of Evil, a daughter of Arthur Blue Chip, has been perfect from half-a-dozen lifetime starts.
The Jeff Holmes stable was hot on the afternoon portion of the day with a training triple. U No Peach was a winner in 2:00.2 in her debut in $7,250 P.E.I. Colt Stakes Grassroots action for two-year-old pacing fillies. Ken Murphy was in the bike for the Holmes victory. Holmes also scored with Allaboutthecash (1:58) in a $7,300 two-year-old pacing colt Grassroots divisions with Gilles Barrieau aboard while the Orwell trainer’s third win was with Alcina (1:57.3) in line to Barrieau in the $4,600 Island Ocean Aged Trot Mares Series, presented by Burkie By The Bay Stables.
Barrieau had the hot hands on the afternoon as the Dieppe, N.B., native also won with Ashes To Ashes (1:57.2) from the Ron Matheson barn in Race 11, Dusty Lane Dixie (1:58.2) from his own barn in a $7,250 two-year-old filly Grassroots division in Race 10 and Goodmorning Nova (1:56.2) leading at every call to win a $14,500 P.E.I. Colt Stakes Gold division for two-year-old pacing fillies in Race 9 from the Dwane MacEachern barn as part of his five-bagger. Goodmorning Nova is owned by Melissa Banks and Jason Williams.
The first $14,600 P.E.I. Colt Stakes two-year-old pacing colt Gold divisions was won by Merigo Magic (1:55.2) for driver Adam Merner, trainer Melissa Rennie and owners Mike May, Herman McQuaid, Derrick Cameron and Ian Walker. Jackies Boy prevailed in the other $14,600 split in 1:57.1 for driver Myles Heffernan Sr., and owner-trainer Myles Heffernan Jr.
West Coast Kid lit up the tote board on the afternoon paying $100.40 to win from the Philip Kelly stable with Brodie MacPhee in the driver’s seat in overnight action in the seventh race.
