Just days away from the Simcoe Stakes at Mohawk Racetrack, Steve Elliott, trainer of Pepsi North America Cup winner Well Said, has discussed the Western Hanover colt's recent qualifying effort
over the Campbellville, Ont. oval with Harness Racing Communications.
With Ron Pierce in the race bike, Well Said, the top-ranked pacer in the most recent harness racing poll, recorded a 1:51.4 victory over Dial Or Nodial, which was making his first charted start since injuring himself in the NA Cup.
Previous to the qualifier, Well Said had last raced on August 16 at Chester Racetrack where he won the $500,000 Battle of the Brandywine.
“Ronnie said that’s the best he’s been,” Elliott said about the qualifying mile. “I think he came though the layoff in good shape. He gained some weight. He was already heavy, but it didn’t hurt him none.”
Harness Racing Communications has reported that following the Simcoe, Well Said’s next start should come in the Little Brown Jug on September 24 at the Delaware County Fairgrounds in Ohio.
