On Thursday, September 8 it was announced that multiple stakes winner Control The Moment p,3,1:48.2 ($1,227,832) has been retired from racing.
Co-owner Howard Taylor broke the news. He stated that it was with sadness that the connections of the three-year-old son of Well Said had to make the announcement, which has come after the brown colt suffered a career-ending injury.
Taylor stated that Control The Moment’s injury has forced him to prematurely retire from racing. “We will always have his remarkable racing career to look back upon, winning eight of nine starts as a two-year-old, including the Metro and O’Brien Award as the top two-year-old,” Taylor said.
Control The Moment’s three-year-old season was highlighted by his victories in the Meadowlands Pace and the Cane Pace.
Control The Moment won 12 of his 18 career starts and $1,227,832 in purses. He took his lifetime mark of 1:48.2 while winning the Meadowlands Pace in wire-to-wire fashion earlier this summer.
Bred by Dr. Fred Kruszelnicki of Brooks, Alberta, Control The Moment was trained by Brad Maxwell and driven by Randy Waples. Brian Sears steered the colt in his last four starts. Tara Hills Stud Ltd. had acquired a piece of the colt a few months ago. In his Thursday announcement, Taylor explained that no decision has been made at this time as to where Control The Moment will stand at stud.
”Fortunately, his injury will have no impact on his ability to breed, and we look forward to what we hope will be a long and successful stallion career,” Taylor said. “It has not yet been determined where Control the Moment will stand stud. An announcement will be forthcoming as soon as arrangements are finalized.”
