After a dead-heat victory last weekend in Truro Raceway's featured pace, American Risk had the spotlight all to himself on Sunday afternoon (September 5).
Driven by Andrew Campbell, American Risk was the quickest off the gate from post four in the $2,000 Winners Over Pace and raced three-wide into the first turn to secure the lead ahead of insiders Harry G (Ernest Laffin) and Thunder Alley (Darren Crowe).
Following opening fractions of :27.4 and :57, 3-5 favourite Imalookertoo (Danny Romo) went on the attack from fourth and collared American Risk, holding a short lead past the 1:23.3 three-quarters mark.
However, American Risk fought back and reclaimed the top spot with an eighth of a mile to go then held off Harry G as that pocket-pursuer closed through the passing lane.
Prevailing by three-quarters of a length, American Risk stopped the clock in 1:55 flat. Harry G settled for second while 21-1 longshot Rusty Riley (Paul Langille) closed to nip Imalookertoo for third prize.
Sent postward as the 6-5 second choice, American Risk paid $4.60 to win.
George Rennison trains the five-year-old American Ideal gelding, who has put together a record reading 5-1-5 from 13 starts this year for Risky Bizz Group. American Risk now has a dozen wins lifetime and purse earnings totalling more than $71,000.
Due to a starting gate malfunction, the final five races on the program were contested without the outside wing of the gate extended at the start.
