Saulsbrook Victor routinely finds himself in the money among the top competitors at Woodbine Mohawk Park, but on Wednesday, Sept. 4, the Ronald MacDonald student travelled to Grand River Raceway for a qualifying session and not only did he win by a whopping 46 lengths, Saulsbrook Victor paced the fastest qualifying time in Canadian harness racing history in 1:49.1.
There have only been two other sub-1:50 qualifiers in Canada over any track size with Warrawee Needy winning in 1:49.2 in 2012 at Mohawk and Beach Glass winning in the same time at the seven-eighths-mile Campbellville oval in 2023.
Brett MacDonald was in the bike for his dad, Ron, as the pair lined up in post four in the field of five pacers over Grand River's new five-eighths-mile track. Saulsbrook Victor left early and never looked back, opening up by five lengths at the :26.2 quarter. He was up by 12 lengths at the half in :54.2 and 25 lengths at the 1:21.4 three-quarters. Breezing home with no competition in sight, Saulsbrook Victor maneuvered the record-setting mile time of 1:49.1 by 46 lengths.
Saulsbrook Victor (Source Of Pride-Atlanta Girl) is owned by Brett MacDonald and Brent MacLennan. He has earned a record of 4-5-2 and $126,840 in 21 starts this year. Just one start shy of 100, Saulsbrook Victor boasts a record of 24-25-10 to go along with $551,885 banked. The six-year-old gelding's career best time of 1:49 was taken at the start of June at Mohawk in a $32,000 Preferred 2 Pace.
