After winning four consecutive races earlier this summer for trainer Bill Budd, Dreamfair Eternity slipped into a slump for three straight starts in the month of August. She snapped out of her funk with a solid victory in come-from-behind fashion in Monday’s $8,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred 3 at Grand River Raceway.
Dreamfair Eternity got away fifth in the six-mare affair while even-money favourite, Filly Forty Seven, hustled to the lead. Filly Forty Seven sliced out splits of :27.4, :57.2 and 1:25.4, but she couldn’t go the distance. Pinky Tuscadero came first-over on the way to the half, and Kelly latched onto cover from second-over with Dreamfair Eternity. Kelly sent his charge three-wide going to the three-quarter pole, and after sustaining her bid around the final turn Dreamfair Eternity used her :29.2 closing speed to prevail by three-quarters of a length over Filly Forty Seven in 1:55.3. On The Minute Mark was third.
Bill Budd trains the four-year-old daughter of Somebeachsomewhere-Dreamfair Eternal for owner/breeder John Lamers of Ingersoll, Ont. It was the eighth lifetime triumph for the career winner of close to $40,000.
