Dealin With Dewey stacked the deck as he crushed in the $11,000 Preferred Handicap Trot at Flamboro Downs on Sunday, Sept. 29.
The 1-5 choice on the toteboard was piloted by Jason Ryan as the duo left from post five in the field of seven. Dealin With Dewey moved to the lead from the outset, floating around Treasured Tee (Brett MacDonald) on the first turn before leading to the quarter in :28.3. Unchallenged to the half in :58.4, Dealin With Dewey asserted himself on the lead on the backstretch, opening up by 2-1/4 lengths over the pocket-sitter to three-quarters in 1:27.3.
The lead continued to grow on the final turn, with Dealin With Dewey reaching the top of the stretch three lengths clear. Ryan remained motionless in the bike through the lane, as Dealin With Dewey motored to a 4-1/2-length victory in 1:56.3. Treasured Tee held for second and R Royal Port (Scott Coulter) finished third.
Coming in from Woodbine Mohawk Park to make his first Flamboro start of the season, Dealin With Dewey recorded his third victory in 20 starts this year for owner and trainer Sara Baillargeon. The six-year-old gelded son of Wheeling N Dealin-Rockin With Dewey is a 13-time career winner and sports lifetime earnings of $290,206.
In addition to the Preferred Trot, Flamboro played host to three $8,000 divisions of the Prospect Series, two for two-year-old trotting colts and a lone division for rookie pacing colts.
Massedonia ($4.90) romped to a 5-3/4-length victory in the first division for trotting colts, crossing the wire in 2:04.3 as the lone entrant in the field of five to trot the entire mile with Travis Henry aboard. Dale Fritz trains and co-owns the gelded son of Muscle Mass-Penetangore along with Edward Acheson.
Sire Muscle Mass swept both divisions for trotting colts as Mass Speed ($4) and Jason Ryan led every step of the way en route to a 2:04.1 victory in the second division, a length in front of Casual Guy (Lorne House) and Gin Master (Austin Sorrie). A winner in four of his six starts this season, the even-money favourite is conditioned by Francis Guillemette for owner Michel Allard.
Five Star Lou ($8.70) overcame the second-tier starting position to snag the lone division for pacing colts. A middle-half move landed Five Star Lou in the pocket before chasing down Silverwalls (Scott Coulter) in the lane to win by a length in 1:57. Babbling Billy (Samuel Fillion) finished third. A winner in three of seven races, the son of Dancin Lou-Hakima is trained by Shawn Steacy for owners Landmark 17 Racing Stable, Stephen Downey, Dan Mogridge and Esa Lahtinen.
The Prospect Series concludes with the finals slated for Friday, Oct. 11 at The Raceway at Western Fair District.
