'Greater Sudbury Pace' Drawn; Noms. Due

Published: September 29, 2010 07:24 pm EDT

Saturday night’s $75,000 City Of Greater Sudbury Pace has drawn what is clearly the best field of pacing horses to ever answer the bugle call to post at Sudbury Downs

. They’ll line up for the ninth race for a record-setting purse amount, and track officials believe that it will not be the only record set that night.

Trainer Wayne Preszcator will harness a pair of sharpshooters for the event. Owned by the Secret Weapon Stables of Waterloo, Ont., both Part Shark and Secret Weapon captured their respective elimination events and have drawn mid-pack starting positions. The track was listed as sloppy, which hindered any threat to the current Sudbury speed mark of 1:54.1. Part Shark is the recent winner of Charlottetown’s Gold Cup and Saucer and took a new personal best time of 1:51 flat.

Rocco and Carmen Auciello team up in their bid to upset the Preszcator power house with Panda Bear. He was runner up to Part Shark in Charlottetown and again last week in Sudbury. He’ll start from the No. 2 spot inside of both of Preszcator’s entries.

A flurry of Sudbury regulars have all qualified for the final. Rush Rules has drawn the pylon position and Mr Coolie is well spotted from No. 3. Deuces And Jacks, the current Sudbury track record holder, was unlucky in the draw getting the No. 8. And, just inside of him in No. 7 is Brawny.

Others entered for the big money are the No. 4 Lookin For A Fight and Power Off, who will leave from the second tier.

Horsemen are also reminded this is the last day for nominations to Sudbury’s “Late Bloomer Pacing Series.” Nomination forms can be downloaded from www.sudburydowns.com. For further information, contact Brent Powell at the Sudbury Downs Race Office.

Post time for Sudbury Downs' first race is 7:15 p.m.
