Offspring of sire Hes Spooky won three of the four $20,000 Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) divisions for two-year-old trotters Wednesday (Sept. 26) at Harrington Raceway.
Mist Stable's Go Jetem ($10.00, Art Stafford Jr.) took the first division for colts and geldings in 2:05.3. The Hes Spooky gelding collared pacesetter Dr Grinch late for a narrow win. Shermans Way was third. Go Jetem notched his first career win for trainer Jim Thompson.
The fastest division went to unbeaten Embrace The Grind ($2.20, Jonathan Roberts) for Andrew Glassmeyer, who was a 2:02.4 winner over Rich N Royal and Just As Striking. The Keystone Activator gelding improved to three-for-three in his career. Glassmeyer and Roberts teamed up for two wins in stakes action, while Roberts had three wins on the card.
The first of two filly divisions went to owner-trainer Mark Groce's Shes Spooky ($3.80, Ross Wolfenden) over Star Time and Bellas Party Punk in 2:04.1. It was the first career win for the homebred daughter of Hes Spooky.
In the second division, Glassmeyer's Dark Dutchess ($9.20, Roberts) was a wire-to-wire winner in 2:04.4 in a tight finish over Command The Day and Disco Soleil. A daughter of Hes Spooky, it was her first career win for her owner-trainer.
The $100,000 final events for all DSBF two-year-olds is Wednesday, Oct. 3.
The meet's leading driver, Victor Kirby, fresh off a five-win night Tuesday, scored his third win of four on the card aboard Zippett Racing Stable's Murmur Hanover ($3.00) in the $15,000 Open Trot in 1:56.3 for trainer Jay Gannon. The eight-year-old Majestic Son gelding recorded his 32nd career win via a front-end performance, where he held off runner-up Theresademoninme and third-place finisher Gillie The Kid.
Mike Cole, Wolfenden and Stafford Jr. all had driving doubles.
