
Former Michigan champion Two Birds Onestone smashed the overall track record at Northville Downs at Barry Expo Center, beating the week-old mile of Red Righthand Man N on Wednesday, Sept. 24 in a $13,151 conditioned event.
Favourite Born Wild (David Lake) left hard for the early lead and seated Chanceitlikeitis (Kody Massey) in the pocket and Two Birds Onestone, driven by Jennifer Main, in the three-hole to the quarter in :28. The top three had more than five lengths on the rest of the field through middle fractions of :56.3, and 1:25.4. Main guided her charge to the outside to challenge the leaders at the third station, and Two Birds Onestone flew away with the the lead in the stretch to win by 2-1/2 lengths over Born Wild, with Chanceitlikeitis third.
Two Birds Onestone stopped the clock in 1:54.2, which lowered the previous all-age record by three-fifths of a second. The win also established a new record for an aged pacing gelding.
Two Birds Onestone is owned by Carl Putnam, Jr. and trained by Steve Main. The five-year-old Black Daniels-She B Jeebeez gelding has now earned $365,491 and compiled a record of 32 wins in 79 starts. He returned $5.40 to win.
Lake led all drivers on the afternoon with three wins while John Moody had two. Trainer Kent Hess had a double on the eight-race card.
Racing resumes on Tuesday, Sept. 30 and Wednesday, Oct. 1 at Northville Downs in Hastings, Mich. with a first-race post time of 1 p.m. each day.
