Two-year-old fillies returned to Grand River Raceway on Sunday evening to finish the final round of regular season Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Series events.
Miss Aultsville and driver Jack Moiseyev established a new stakes, track and Canadian record for two-year-old trotting fillies on a half-mile track in the first $70,000 division.
With Jack Moiseyev driving, Miss Aultsville followed Margie (Paul MacDonell) through fractions of :29.3, 1:00.1 and 1:29.3 before getting her nose to the wire first in 1:59.2. Margie just missed in second while Wings Of Ballykeel (Trevor Henry) followed over five lengths behind.
The former track record of 1:59.4 was held by Princess Lilly while the 1:59.3 stakes and Canadian record belonged to Birminghim.
John Kopas trains and co-owns the new record-holder, who is a daughter of Kadabra out of Keystone Betty. She is also owned by Old Aultsville Stable of Mississauga, Ont. and Pealer Pen of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania.
Miss Aultsville earned her first Gold win after three previous runner-up efforts in the OSS program, including a second-place finish in the Mid-Summer Challenge. She is now two-for-seven in her career with earnings soaring past the $100,000 mark.
Reigning Johnston Cup champion Gregg McNair and his son Doug teamed up to win the other two events with two-year-old trotting filly Luck Is All Ineed and two-year-old pacing filly Lady Shadow.
Luck Is All Ineed was a gate-to-winner winner in 2:02.1, scoring by three lengths over early breaker Nickange Two (Mike Saftic) and Torches Star (Steve Condren).
The Muscle Mass-Vics Flag filly is owned by McNair and Illinois partner Tom Harmer. She now has two wins (both Gold Series events) in six career starts with earnings climbing to $89,750.
Returning to Grand River where she won the Battle Of The Belles on Aug. 5, Lady Shadow romped to a six length victory in her $105,000 division over Goldies Mach (Mario Baillargeon) and Jokes Jet (James MacDonald) in 1:56.2.
The Shadow Play-Lady Camella filly is now five-for-seven in her career, including two Gold wins, with $146,700 banked in purses for Michigan owners Lindsey and Connie Rankin.
All three divisions were rescheduled as non-wagering events held before the regular Sunday card after a portion of Friday night's card was cancelled due to unsafe track conditions caused by thunderstorms in the area.
